Preface

Since the first Bitcoin block was "mined" on January 3, 2009, the term "mining" has taken on an additional meaning related to digital currency.

Looking back at the development history of the entire mining industry over the past decade, Bitmain, Canaan Creative and Ebang International have gradually developed into leading companies in the production of mining machines amid fierce competition in the industry. In May, June and September of this year, the three companies successively submitted prospectuses to the Hong Kong Stock Exchange.

In order to have a better computing power, the mining machine has undergone several iterations and updates: Butterfly Miner, Panda Miner, Watermelon Miner, Ant Miner, Avalon Miner, Wingbit Miner...

The battle for computing power between mining pools has never stopped. Since the first mining pool SlushPool, the computing power share of each mining pool has been a constant game of rise and fall. Today, Bitmain's BTC mining pool and AntPool have become two computing power giants in the mining pool with the support of the Ant series of mining machines.

Explanation of terms

Hashrate

Computing power is one of the important indicators to measure the computing speed of a mining machine. The higher the computing power, the higher the probability of "mining" cryptocurrency.

Common computing power units:

1KH/s, which means 1,000 hash function operations can be performed per second;

1MH/s, can perform 10^6 hash function operations per second;

1TH/s, which means 10^12 hash function operations can be performed per second;

1GH/s, which means 10^9 hash function operations can be performed per second;

1PH/s, which means 10^15 hash function operations can be performed per second;

1EH/s, which means 10^18 hash function operations can be performed per second.

FPGA

FPGA is the abbreviation of "Field Programmable Gate Array", which is a kind of integrated circuit. Users can reconfigure the logic modules and I/O modules inside the FPGA to realize the user's logic.

ASIC

ASIC is the abbreviation of "Application Specific Intergrated Circuits", which refers to integrated circuits designed and manufactured to meet specific user requirements and the needs of specific electronic systems.

Mining Pools

A mining pool is a collection of computing power. When everyone concentrates their computing power in the mining pool, the probability of mining a block will be greatly increased. Finally, the profits will be distributed according to each person’s share of computing power.

FC Stocks Start Paying Dividends

The first dividend of FC's stock was paid on January 19, 2013. FC's stock is divided into three categories: direct stock, transfer stock and split stock. Direct stock is directly registered with a BTC wallet address, and each address corresponds to a certain number of shares. When distributing dividends, FC will directly send BTC to the corresponding wallet address. Butterfly Miner failed to deliver on schedule, and large-scale refund requests began to appear

Swedish company KnCMiner opens pre-orders for Mercury/Saturn/Jupiter series mining machines

KnCMiner is a joint venture between ORSoC AB and Kennemar. ORSoC is a Swedish company with about 10 years of expertise in embedded electronics development, focusing on FPGA and ASIC design. KnCMiner opened the first batch of Mercury/Saturn/Jupiter series mining machines for pre-order on June 4, 2013, and finally received more than 600 valid orders.

FriedCat officially launched the USB mining machine, opening the era of ASIC mining machines and FPGA mining machines being eliminated

Ebang International acquires an additional 48.95% stake in its subsidiary Hong Kong Bit

Bitmain releases terminal AI chips and multiple AI products

On October 21, Bitmain settled in the Minhou Branch of Fuzhou Software Park, investing 1.3 billion yuan to build the group's regional headquarters project and Suanfeng Technology Industrial Park project. The main construction and operation are the headquarters building, smart park application platform, smart city comprehensive industrialization project, artificial intelligence training center and dual innovation center, as well as related supporting facilities of the industrial park.

Bitmain adds AsicBoost technology to Antminers

Bitmain’s official blog announced the release of a software update for Antminer S9 devices. In this update, Bitmain added the controversial code AsicBoost, a technology that can increase Bitcoin mining efficiency by nearly 20%.
