Bitcoin mining energy costs more than twice that of copper or gold: study

According to theguardian, researchers at the Oak Ridge Research Institute in Ohio published an article in the journal Nature Sustainability stating that mining $1 worth of Bitcoin requires about 17MJ (megajoules, a unit of thermal energy). In comparison, mining copper, gold and platinum requires 4, 5 and 7MJ respectively. The energy cost of mining Bitcoin is more than twice that of copper or gold.

In addition, the energy cost of mining Monero is 14MJ.
