According to coindesk, the U.S. Federal Election Commission (FEC) has issued a new draft opinion in response to a proposal submitted by OsiaNetwork LLC in September. The FEC stated that it is "permissible" to support their preferred candidates by mining cryptocurrencies. Although OsiaNetwork tried to designate such activities as a voluntary service, the FEC has not yet agreed. FEC lawyers said that although the proposal is "permitted" under the Campaign Act and its rules, any voluntary activity that is not an individual's will be considered a contribution from the participating miners and OsiaNetwork itself. FEC commissioners will vote on the opinion on December 19, 2018. |
