A 22-year-old Indonesian man was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly installing mining software on dozens of university computers, the Korea Herald reported. The man is suspected of installing HoneyMiner, a program used to mine Bitcoin and Monero, on 27 computers in a public computer room at a university in late January and running it for several days. Ulsan District Court Chief Prosecutor Song Young-sung issued an arrest warrant for the suspect because he is a flight risk. The man enrolled at the university in 2014 and studied there until the first semester last year before being expelled in September for failing to register. He allegedly even used the college’s computer room to install and operate the mining program after being expelled. The man was arrested in central Ulsan on Sunday as police searched him for trespassing. Police will investigate whether the suspect benefited from cryptocurrency mining and caused damage to the school. |
