Henan Province cracked a major electricity theft case in which mining consumed 40,000 kWh of electricity in one day

Recently, according to domestic media reports, Henan Province uncovered a major electricity theft case in which the suspect operated more than 1,700 mining machines and stole more than 40,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity in one day!

It is reported that the suspect's mine is located in Pingdingshan, Henan Province, in an abandoned factory building. More than 1,700 mining machines are neatly arranged in it, which is shocking.

To solve the heat dissipation problem of 1,700 mining machines, the suspects installed dozens of 1-meter-diameter fans on a wall and installed water curtain walls near the mining machines for water cooling. To conceal the theft of electricity, the suspects professionally installed sound insulation cotton on the wall, which was 10 cm thick.

Generally speaking, the average monthly electricity consumption of a family of three is about 100 kWh. 40,000 kWh of electricity can supply the family for 33 years . According to statistics, the rural electricity consumption in Pingdingshan was 953.25 million kilowatt-hours in 2017. The annual electricity consumption of this mine accounted for 1.5% of this figure, which is quite amazing.

This is the largest case of mining electricity theft uncovered in Pingdingshan area so far, and it is not an isolated case. Since 2018, 21 similar cases have been uncovered in Pingdingshan area alone.

Currently, the price of Bitcoin remains at around US$5,000. Mining alone can no longer cover the cost of electricity, which is one of the reasons for the increase in electricity theft cases.
