New Mining Malware Uses Monero Mining Script to Secretly Mine Monero

According to financemagnates , researchers have discovered a new cryptocurrency mining malware, GoLang, which uses vulnerable computers to secretly mine Monero

The malware is reportedly targeting Linux-based servers using the Monero mining script XMRig 2.13. 1 to mine Monero. The malware has been reported by multiple cybersecurity research groups in the past few weeks, and according to researchers at Trend Micro, the malware not only targets vulnerable servers but also attempts to spread throughout the network.

In order to hide the spread and existence of the malware, the malicious code even disables security tools and software and deletes history and logs from the compromised device. In addition, it terminates other ongoing mining operations in the system to utilize the maximum CPU space. It also bans any process that occupies more than 30% of memory resources.

Cybercriminals reportedly even managed to implant malware into several mining pools, but were able to obtain less than $2,000 worth of cryptocurrency from those pools.
