Big news! Official announcement: FILECOIN mainnet will be launched in the first quarter of 2020!

On September 25, 2019, FilecoinNetwork updated its Q2Q3 report, which gave clear launch dates for the test network and main network!

In our last major update , up date 2018-q3-q4 , we announced changes to our roadmap:

We are currently reviewing our roadmap again to include recent progress and an updated launch date.

So far in 2019, we have made the following progress:

• Opened the go-filecoin codebase in Q1 2019

• The first Filecoin open network was launched in the first quarter of 2019.

• As of September 2019, we have multiple implementations in development

Since the beginning of the year, we have been focusing on:

• Improving our protocol design

• Completing our cryptographic proof construction

• Launching a long-running test network

• Growing our community

It’s been a big year for the team. After months of research and engineering development, we are on track to build a protocol that meets our requirements for security, scalability, and performance, and is being actively implemented by our development team.

“Our network is almost live. We’ve pushed back our previously planned launch date, but - as you’ll read later - we’ve made huge progress on all fronts! We’re now ready enough to announce the following launch dates:

• Alphanet: September 25, 2019

• Testnet: December 11, 2019

• Mainnet: March 2020

Note: These dates are of course best estimates and are subject to change. Our community has repeatedly asked us to provide faster, more accurate date updates, even if the dates may ultimately change, rather than conservatively setting a launch date in the future.”

As we get closer to launch, we’ve refined our milestones and announced several exciting dates:

• The alphanet (long-running Filecoin network) will be launched on September 25, 2019

• The testnet will be launched on December 11, 2019

• The mainnet launch date has not yet been announced, but we expect to release the exact launch date 1-2 quarters after the testnet launch, which is in Q1 2020.

We have made the following adjustments to milestones:

In October 2019, we will publish a link to the development roadmap on our blog. This document will contain the remaining work related to testnet and mainnet launch so that the community can follow our progress towards these goals. As mentioned above, we have also updated the roadmap document with the expectations of these new milestones:

Since the testing of the Filecoin development network, it has undergone multiple version updates, from the original version 0.1.0 starting on February 15 to the latest version 0.5.X. Protocol Labs has been moving forward steadily and striving to overcome various difficulties and obstacles. As people say: There is a reason why building a blockchain is like building a software rocket!

We have been closely following the official development steps and have seen how hard they have worked, working almost day and night to optimize and advance the entire project, which has resulted in such gratifying results. Although the update of the schedule and the launch time relative to the fourth quarter of 2019 have been delayed, I think this is very good news because the time is finally confirmed!

On July 14, the Shenzhen fans of the Protocol Labs China Tour met up. I still remember that when the official Chief Marketing Strategy Officer Colin talked to me privately, he asked me a question:

“You hope that Filecoin Will everyone benefit from the early launch of the mainnet, or will we improve it more carefully so that it becomes an extremely powerful network when it goes online? "
