Nervos CKB 5th Mining Competition Information

Introduction to Nervos CKB Mining Competition

In order to allow the community to better participate in the construction of Nervos CKB, the Nervos Foundation has officially decided to sponsor and host the Nervos CKB testnet mining competition. Anyone can participate in this event by participating in the testnet mining and win the mainnet CKB token grand prize.

This Nervos CKB mining competition is the fifth and final Nervos CKB mining competition during the Nervos CKB testnet. The mining competition is divided into three phases, each phase lasts for two weeks, so the total duration of this competition is six weeks (2019.10.5~2019.11.16). Each phase will involve the update and iteration of the CKB version, so SOLO mining partners should pay attention to the version changes and upgrade the corresponding CKB version in time.

Bonus for this issue

The total prize money for this mining competition is 45 million CKB . According to the CoinList public offering price (1 CKB = 0.01 USD), the total prize money is approximately 450,000 USD (approximately 3.2 million RMB). Because this competition will last for six weeks and is divided into three stages, the prize money is also divided into three levels, and each stage increases in turn. The specific corresponding amounts and time periods are distributed as follows:

Phase 1 rewards: 12,000,000 CKB

(2019.10.5 14:00 ~ 2019.10.19 14:00)

Phase 2 Rewards: 15,000,000 CKB

(2019.10.19 14:00 ~ 2019.11.02 14:00)

Phase 3 Rewards: 18,000,000 CKB

(2019.11.02 14:00 ~ 2019.11.16 14:00)

It is worth noting that the test coins obtained from testnet mining are not exchanged one-to-one with the final rewards, but are converted according to a certain ratio. For example, in the first two weeks of the first phase, a total of X test coins are generated through mining, and you as a miner have mined a total of Y test coins, then in this phase, you can eventually get (Y/X*12000000) CKB rewards.

How to participate in mining

(The following ranking is in no particular order)

How to participate in this Nervos CKB mining competition? You can use the Solo mode or participate in the mining pool mode. Currently, there are many mining pools that support CKB testnet mining, including but not limited to: Spark Mining Pool, f2pool Fish Pool, Shuangyou Mining Pool, Bee Mining Pool, BTC.com Mining Pool, Huobi Mining Pool, 2Miners Mining Pool.

In addition, BTC.com recently open-sourced the mining service and mining protocol of the CKB mining pool. BTC.com released the open-source code of the Nervos CKB mining pool and actively promoted the development of the community. We believe that more mining pools will support CKB mining in the future. We also encourage and admire BTC.com's open-source spirit. As BTC.com said: open source can form a natural cooperation and interaction, and can attract the support of more outstanding developers, thereby activating the community and creating broader and more beneficial value for participants .

Frequently asked questions

Q1: When will the mining competition prizes be distributed?

A: The rewards for this Nervos CKB testnet mining competition and the first four mining competitions will be directly distributed in the genesis block (without lock-up) when the Nervos CKB mainnet is launched.

The Nervos CKB testnet address and the mainnet address use different formats, but they correspond to the same private key. You only need to keep the private key you use when participating in the mining activity. After the mainnet is launched, you can import the private key in your wallet to get rewards. If you participate in the mining activity through a mining pool, the specific time and process of issuing rewards will be arranged by the mining pool.

Q2: How are the specific block rewards distributed?

A: Nervos CKB's block rewards will include four parts in total. For fairness considerations, the competition only calculates the basic reward part.

In the design of CKB consensus protocol, block rewards include four parts: basic rewards, secondary rewards, submission rewards, and proposal rewards. Since secondary rewards are related to on-chain state occupation, and submission rewards and proposal rewards are related to transfers, these three parts are easily affected by human operations. Therefore, the competition only calculates the basic reward part, and transfers, secondary rewards, submission rewards, and proposal rewards are not included.

For more detailed information about the block reward distribution, please refer to: Nervos CKB Mining Rewards Overview.

Q3: What kind of machine is needed for mining?

A: There are no professional mining machines (such as FPGA mining machines, ASIC mining machines, etc.) for CKB mining algorithms on the market, so GPU mining is currently the main method used. Miners can use N cards or A cards for mining. The mining software also supports multiple mining modes such as CKB single mining and CKB+ETH dual mining.

Q4: When will it be launched on the mainnet and when will it be listed on the exchange?

A: This may be a question that everyone is concerned about. Of course, there is no official announcement yet to give an exact launch time, but it is clear that the Nervos CKB mainnet will be launched in the fourth quarter of this year, and it should be after the end of this mining competition. Therefore, the mainnet launch time can be basically confirmed to be in late November or December this year. Please be patient.

As for when it will be listed on the exchange, since CKB will not issue other alternative tokens before the mainnet is launched, the official listing on the exchange will definitely be after the mainnet is launched. I believe that there will not be a long gap between the mainnet launch and the exchange launch. As for which exchanges will be listed, we believe that the Nervos official team will give us a satisfactory answer.

Q5: What is CKB’s economic model, the number of tokens issued and their unlocking status?

A: Nervos CKB economic model proposal:

https://github.com/nervosnetwork/rfcs/tree/master/rfcs/0015-ckb-cryptoeconomics,

Chinese version: https://github.com/nervos-community/RFC-CN.

For an interpretation of Nervos’ economic model, please refer to Ikkiu’s article: Ikkiu tells you why Nervos is the sweetheart of the public chain.

For the specific number of CKB tokens issued and the unlocking status, please refer to: Nervos CKB token issuance details are officially released. If you have any questions about token issuance, welcome to join the Nervos Community family, we will answer you in time.
