Filecoin confirms that the next development version will use single/multi-GPU mining, and CPU mining will be abandoned

According to BlockBeats, according to the news released by Filecoin's official Slack, the next Filecoin development test network will require single GPU or multi-GPU mining. Currently, the Filecoin team is testing the mining performance of graphics cards such as Nvidia 2080ti. It is understood that the previously hot-selling CPU mining machines will not be able to participate in Filecoin mining, while Ethereum graphics card mining machines will have the opportunity to participate in mining.

According to official sources, Nvidia 1080ti graphics cards have been confirmed to participate in Filecoin mining. But this does not mean that Filecoin will become a mining coin for graphics card mining. Graphics cards are the configuration for running election nodes. According to official news, the reason for using graphics cards is that a large number of post-snark calculations must be performed within a block time, and the current optimal solution for snark calculations is GPU rather than CPU.

Filecoin administrator Why said that perhaps the latest AMD Threadripper processor can compete with GPU in performance, but it needs to be tested. "Using ordinary CPUs to mine, the time to mine a block is much longer than the block time. When this block is sent to the network, the TipSet of other nodes does not recognize it, and this block will be isolated."

Regarding the fact that many people do not understand Filecoin's transition from CPU mining to GPU mining, the administrator said that they have been discussing this on Slack for several months. This may be related to the complete mining machines that all miners purchased before. It is understood that all CPU configuration hardware on the market cannot participate in the new Filecoin mining.

Although Filecoin has not officially released the specific graphics card parameters, judging from the current test cards and feedback from other developers, the graphics card miners used to mine Ethereum may also be able to participate in Filecoin mining. It is understood that the development team is testing the graphics card performance to determine the specific mining configuration, and this testing process will take about 1 week.
