A gang in Zhenjiang stole tens of millions of yuan in electricity by using thousands of "mining machines" to mine Bitcoin. On December 24, the Dantu District People's Court of Zhenjiang City held a trial on this major "mining machine" stealing electricity to mine Bitcoin. The "Jiangsu Trial Live Broadcast" on the Jiaohuidian News client will broadcast the entire case live. Bitcoin mining machines are computers used to earn Bitcoins. They usually work by listing a large number of graphics cards, so they consume a lot of electricity. In addition, a machine consumes more than 20 degrees of electricity for 24 hours a day. If each degree of electricity is calculated at 80 cents, it is more than 20 yuan. If 1,000 mining machines are running, the electricity bill will be more than 20,000 yuan per day. If you buy electricity normally and use it to produce Bitcoin, there is almost no profit. In this case, the "miners" "hang on" to the electricity used by factories and mines in remote areas. It was found that for more than two years, the defendants Lan Moufeng, Li Mou, and Mao Mouhai conspired to rent venues in Dantu District, Zhenjiang City and other places, and stole state electricity to mine Bitcoin by short-circuiting transformers. The defendants Wang Moubin, Ye Mouhua, Lan Moulian, and Mao Mouping invested and joined in to help maintain and manage. The criminal suspect Wang Mou (handled in another case) actively helped the defendant Lan Moufeng and others find the theft site, coordinate related matters, and profited from it. The defendants Zhu Mouzhong, Xu Moumin, and Liu Mouqun knew that the defendant Lan Moufeng and others were stealing state electricity and still provided assistance, and profited from it. Among them, the defendant Lan Moufeng participated in thefts totaling more than 13.78 million yuan; the defendants Li Mou and Mao Mouhai participated in thefts totaling nearly 11.70 million yuan; the defendant Wang Moubin participated in thefts totaling nearly 11.43 million yuan; the defendants Ye Mouhua and Lan Moulian participated in thefts totaling more than 9.31 million yuan; the defendant Mao Mouping participated in thefts totaling nearly 6.94 million yuan; the defendant Zhu Mouzhong participated in thefts totaling more than 1.18 million yuan; the defendant Xu Moumin participated in thefts totaling 600,000 yuan; and the defendant Liu Mouqun participated in thefts totaling nearly 410,000 yuan. After the power was connected privately, the line loss at the factory location was abnormal and showed a sharp upward trend. This situation attracted the attention of the Zhenjiang power supply department. The staff discovered the theft of electricity through data analysis of the power consumption information collection system and multiple on-site inspections, and immediately reported the case to the public security organs. On May 20, the defendants Lan Moufeng, Li Mou, Mao Mouhai, Wang Moubin, Ye Mouhua, Mao Mouping, Xu Moumin, and Liu Mouqun were arrested by the public security organs; on July 25, the defendant Zhu Mouzhong surrendered to the public security organs; on August 16, the defendant Lan Moulian was arrested by the public security organs. It was also found that the defendants had returned 980,000 yuan of stolen money (including 200,000 yuan from Li, 600,000 yuan from Xu, and 180,000 yuan from Zhu) and had returned it to the Zhenjiang Power Supply Branch of State Grid Jiangsu Electric Power Co., Ltd.
