According to BlockBeats, although the Steem community successfully completed the hard fork and generated the new chain Hive.io at 22:00 on March 20, an unexpected situation seems to have occurred. On March 23, HIVE Blockchain Technologies Ltd. (TSX.V: HIVE) (OTCQX: HVBTF), a listed mining company headquartered in Vancouver, Canada, issued an official announcement on Monday that its legal representative had issued an ease-and-desist order to the new chain Hive.io.

“In response to multiple shareholder inquiries regarding the blockchain announcement, HIVE clarified that the blockchain has no connection to our company and that the use of ‘HIVE’ and ‘Hive Blockchain’, whether intentional or not, does confuse our brand, which is used globally in connection with our blockchain-related goods, services, and cryptocurrencies,” the mining company said in the announcement.

HIVE interim executive chairman Frank Holmes said that they have invested a lot of money in brand development and market education. In addition to the brand name, they have no opinion on issues such as forks and hope that Hive.io can "solve the problem by changing its name."

HIVE Blockchain is the world's first listed Bitcoin mining company, founded in January 2013, with its main mining location in Iceland, because the profits of cryptocurrency mining largely rely on efficient energy infrastructure and a large amount of cheap electricity from renewable resources such as geothermal and hydropower. The company's investment institutions include Genesis Group and Latent Capital.
