Filecoin's latest roadmap announced, second-phase testing expected on May 11

After two days of intense discussion and selection, Filecoin officials finally announced the testing time (the following is a translation of the key points from the official blog).

Filecoin Current Highlights

• Total effective storage capacity: 5PB

Over the past two months, the Filecoin testnet has crossed 5PB of proven storage. Over a dozen PB are currently being sealed and will soon be counted towards on-chain storage power. Proven network storage is currently growing at around 50 TB per day!

• Realize interoperability between Go and Lotus

We’ve achieved this milestone — lotus and go-filecoin are now interoperable on the same network! This is a huge milestone for the Filecoin project and another step towards completion and convergence before we launch the Filecoin mainnet.

• Completed the first round of internal audit

Another major priority before Testnet Phase 2 is completing our internal protocol security audit. We have completed the first round of audits and have drafted a number of protocol changes to ensure our mainnet launch structure is secure and economically sound.

• Received about 50 large miner test applications

At the end of February, the Filecoin DevGrants program released an RFP for large miners (with 5PB+ storage capacity) to help test various features of the Filecoin implementation and network. The RFP received 48 applications from large miners.

• Testnet Phase 2 - Timing Decisions

After consulting the community, the development team chose option 2:

Testnet Phase 2: May 11th – May 17th window

Mainnet launch: July 20-August 21 window

This option will allow us to make the most critical protocol changes first and then implement the rest of the protocol upgrades during the testnet period.

These dates remain optimistic estimates based on the latest information and are not commitments.

• Hardware Specifications Timing

We are working hard to optimize and improve the Proof of Replication (PoRep) that will be used for mainnet. We will know in May if this plan works.

Miners are advised not to purchase hardware on a large scale.

• Testnet Phase 2 - Rewards

We will be offering some rewards for participating in specific tests in Testnet Phase 2 - rewards of over 1 million FIL. (FIL will be delivered after mainnet launch and is subject to certain vesting/time limits).

The critical timeframe for these tests will likely be 2-3 weeks in June. We will release more details in May.
