Welcome to IPFS Weekly The InterPlanetary File System (IPFS) ( https://ipfs.io/ ) is a new hypermedia distribution protocol, addressable by content and identity. IPFS enables the creation of fully distributed applications. Its goal is to make the web faster, more secure, and more open. Due to the large scope, this weekly newsletter aims to track developments across the ecosystem. This is what happens in the Interplanetary File System ecosystem! ? go-ipfs 0.5.0 is officially released We are excited to announce the latest release of go-ipfs 0.5.0. This release is an important step towards a more efficient, secure, and resilient network to protect and advance human knowledge. Read the full announcement on the blog for more details. Join us for the 0.5 launch on Friday! Join the IPFS community for a virtual meetup to get a deeper understanding of what’s in the latest 0.5 release, how to take advantage of these improvements, and how IPFS is being used in the wild today. The event starts on Friday, May 1st at 5PM UTC / 1PM ET / 10AM PT. Meet IPFS core developers and many of the builders who deploy IPFS into production, as well as a great lineup of speakers in-store, and plenty of time for Q&A and demos! RSVP to attend. Research on the latest IPFS mobile phone design For IPFS to be successful, it has to be where people are using it, and for the vast majority of people around the world who use smartphones. So we worked with Jim Kosem to understand how people build, use, and think about P2P and IPFS on today's mobile devices to create tools and guidance. Jim shared a summary of his findings in a recent post on the IPFS blog. Highlights of the Week
