The Iranian government has issued a mining license to the Turkish mining farm iMiner, which will be able to deploy 6,000 mining machines in Iran

According to foreign media Tabnak, Iran’s government department (Ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade) has issued a license to Turkey’s iMiner mine to mine in Iran. The license will allow iMiner to deploy 6,000 Bitcoin mining machines in the country’s Semnan city. (Iran currently has more than 148,000 Bitcoin mining machines.)

iMiner has invested 311 billion rials ($7.3 million) to build what is said to be Iran's largest mining farm. iMiner's website states that the company has set up an office in Tehran, Iran "for administrative purposes only" and provides services "only in an informal manner." This license may be the company's official permission to mine in Iran. Iran listed crypto mining as an industrial activity in July 2019, and since then, the government has issued more than 1,000 licenses to crypto mining companies.

Iran’s subsidized electricity prices have led to an influx of miners into the country. According to reports, miners in Iran pay about $0.11 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) of electricity. However, during the peak summer season (June to September), electricity costs are higher, at about $0.46 per kWh. A person familiar with the matter said that Bitcoin miners in Iran actually pay around $0.005 to $0.015 for electricity.
