Filecoin will soon host a competition on its testnet

Filecoin, a blockchain-based data storage project, announced on June 10 that it will hold an upcoming competition on its testnet ahead of its mainnet launch.

The competition on the testnet is aimed at solving network problems before the mainnet launch, and rewards the top 100 miners worldwide, taking into account the storage each miner provides to the ecosystem. Top miners on each continent will also receive bonuses.

“We’ll confirm the exact launch date once we have it confirmed, but the games will probably start in early July,” Maguire detailed.

The event has attracted community attention

Maguire confirmed that there is a lot of interest in the competition concept from the community. “We’ve had very positive feedback from the global mining community and we will be hosting a live Q&A later this month to make sure everyone is ready for the competition.”

Maguire explained the origins of the concept for the competition:

“Incentivized testnets have become a best practice for helping users prepare to launch new chains. We reviewed many testnet-based incentive projects and combined the best elements with some of Filecoin’s unique features, such as storing real user data.”

Filecoin raised $257 million in its 2017 ICO, and the project has been years in the making.
