Announcement | Qitmeer-Medina Network 2.0 Upgrade Announcement

Dear all Qitmeer community users, Medina Network is about to usher in its first important upgrade.

After the unremitting efforts of the Qitmeer technical team, the qitmeer-0.9.0 version technology is ready, and the Qitmeer network and the community will usher in the Medina Network 2.0 era!

This upgrade will add a new PoW algorithm, replace the GPU algorithm with cuckaroom29 large graph mining, and upgrade and optimize the DAG difficulty adjustment algorithm;

This network upgrade will not cause any loss to on-chain assets.

Network upgrade content

This network upgrade includes the following four aspects:

• Added pow algorithm: qitmeer-keccak256

• Replace GPU algorithm: cuckaroom29

• Update DAG difficulty adjustment algorithm

• Optimize transaction fee distribution mechanism

Precautions

There are differences in the data structure between qitmeer-0.9.0 and 0.8.5. After the network upgrade, the account transaction history in version 0.8.5 will be cleared. If you need to keep the transaction records, please save the on-chain transaction records by yourself before 2020/6/20 16:00. After 2020/6/20 16:00, the browser will stop providing 0.8.5 version data.

This network upgrade requires all full nodes in the network to be upgraded to the latest version qitmeer-0.9.0. The technical team will provide necessary support and services. If you have any questions during the upgrade process, you can contact the community service staff in time, or go to Github to ask questions. The technical team will respond as soon as possible.

Asset inheritance

For the on-chain asset inheritance of version 0.8.5, this upgrade will select the "last stable block" of version 0.8.5 as the network snapshot, use this block height as the basis for asset balance liquidation , and inherit the assets to the new version.

Since Qitmeer's BlockDAG network is different from the classic chain structure, it is currently impossible to provide a "precise" block (order) as the "last stable block", but it can provide a specific time point , and then select a stable block that is as close to this time point as possible and meets the algorithm requirements. The error range is within ±60 blocks of this time point. Finally, the technical team determines a block (order) within this range as the " last stable block ".

Time Node

1. In order to give community users sufficient preparation time, the "last stable block" will be selected within the range of 16:00:00 ± 60 blocks on June 20, 2020, Beijing time. That is, after 4 pm on June 20, 2020, miners can choose to stop mining, and all full nodes on the network can gradually exit the qitmeer-0.8.5 network;

   Kahf wallet will close the transfer function in advance at 14:00 on 2020/6/20 . Community users are requested to prepare for transfers in advance to avoid inconvenience caused by the closure of the service.    Qitmeer block browser will stop the 0.8.5 version network service at 2020/6/20 16:00.

2. The exact block (order) of the “last stable block” will be announced on the Qitmeer official website and official public account at 10:00 on 2020/6/21. Community users are requested to pay attention to the latest announcement.

3. From June 21st to 23rd, the technical team will collect data on the qitmeer-0.8.5 network, clear the balance of assets on the chain and verify them, and prepare for the creation of the qitmeer-0.9.0 network. The relevant addresses and balance lists will be announced at 10 am on June 23rd for everyone to check and verify. Community users are requested to pay attention to the latest announcement.

4. Qitmeer Medina Network 2.0 will be officially launched at 10:00 on June 24, 2020, and the qitmeer-0.9.0 release version will be released.
