Filecoin’s paid vs. Internet’s free

Filecoin’s paid vs. Internet’s free

Filecoin principle:

When users store files in the system, they need to pay Filecoin tokens before they can upload their files and let a miner node in the system store the files.

When a user wants to download a file, there are usually two ways:

  • The user knows the hash value of the file and can download the file directly based on the hash value;

  • The user does not know the hash value of the file, but knows certain properties of the file. The user can pay Filecoin to the retrieval miner, and the retrieval miner provides the location of the file, and the storage miner provides the file download.

In summary, the key services obtained by users in the Filecoin system require payment of Filecoin tokens.

Many friends are puzzled. In the face of the Internet where everything is free today, how should Filecoin create advantages (attractive conditions) to make more people switch from "free" to "paid"?

In existing Internet applications, we basically do not need to pay to enjoy services: free videos, free novels, free games, free cloud storage...

This "free" seems to have become many people's perception of the Internet and they take it for granted.

However, are the Internet services we use really free?

When we open a video website, we only need to watch a video of more than one minute to watch a video or a wonderful movie for free, but often when we are enjoying it, the system will suddenly insert an advertisement. We are either forced to watch this boring advertisement or be prompted to pay to become a member if we want to avoid advertisements.

When we play Internet games, we can play for free, but if we want to pass the level faster or fight monsters more efficiently, we often need advanced "weapons", and these "weapons" need to be purchased. Without these "weapons", either the game will end early or the progress of the game will be unbearably slow.

When we use cloud storage, we can upload a file very quickly, but when we download the file, we find that the download speed is only tens of KB. A large file may take one or two days to download.

All of these apps seem to be free, but the app providers have set up traps and obstacles for us in terms of user experience, making it impossible for us to use them for free and have a smooth experience.

We often have this experience: when we search for something on a shopping app, such as paper, and then use other apps, the app will provide you with advertisements related to paper. Invisibly, your data is transmitted to other app providers.

Even in some seemingly free applications, we will be asked to fill in a lot of personal information or even disclose our privacy , and our private information is often used by these businesses as an important information resource for commercial profit.

Therefore, the so-called free on the Internet is only free in appearance and not truly free. We actually pay a huge price for this "free".

In Filecoin, although we pay, we get a clean usage environment and smooth user experience in return, and we no longer have to worry about being harassed and forced to insert various boring advertisements.
