At 6:00 am on August 25th , Beijing time , the Filecoin Space Race officially started. Protocol Labs encouraged miners around the world to join the Filecoin Space Race by offering 4.1 million FIL rewards. Now the Space Race has been running stably for a week, with 343 active miners around the world, a storage success rate of 64%, and a retrieval success rate of 96%. " As a stress test before the launch of the Filecoin mainnet, the Space Race is a milestone for Filecoin. Filecoin officials are also constantly optimizing the network to make it simpler, more efficient, and more open. Today, let’s take a look at the latest progress since the launch of the Space Race. On August 25, one hour after the space race started, a bug occurred at block height 101, causing the chain to stop producing blocks. The Filecoin official technical team spent about an hour fixing the bug. After the bug was fixed, at noon, the CDSI Alliance & Spacetime Cloud participating node "t02398" was successfully listed and jumped to the top of the computing power rankings around 13:00.On August 27, the Filecoin official team held the opening ceremony of the Filecoin Space Race. Juan Benit, founder of Protocol Labs, explained the Filecoin ecosystem, the rules of the Filecoin Space Race, etc. Afterwards, other staff members of Protocol Labs also conducted Q&A on some issues of concern to everyone. When the storage capacity of the entire network exceeds 30PB, the number of active miners around the world is also increasing. Everything is moving towards a higher, faster and stronger direction. However, the situation in Oceania, Africa and other regions in the six continents of the world is not optimistic. In order to help more miners join the space race, Filecoin officials announced some improvements to the competition structure in the slack channel on August 28: Lower the unlocking baseline for each continent. The minimum unlocking line for each continent is changed from 100TiB to 10TiB, followed by 50TiB, and the corresponding reward amount remains unchanged (25k/50k FIL); Lower the global reward unlocking baseline. The global 1 million FIL reward unlocking baseline is changed from 1PiB per continent to 10TiB; Set a maintenance window. The maintenance window is from 14:00 on August 30 to 14:00 on September 1, Beijing time. The deal bot will not propose new transactions during the maintenance window. Official staff will fix errors during the window and clear some failed transactions related to bot or Lotus issues. Transactions created before the maintenance window are still valid, giving miners a chance to complete the transaction; during the maintenance period, miners still need to submit posts.
On August 29, Filecoin officials gave sharp comments on the in-fulture space race and reiterated the importance of transaction success rate for the space race. Although effective computing power is the primary condition for measuring how much reward is obtained, the transaction success rate is the prerequisite for whether or not to get the reward. Although some manufacturers have higher effective computing power, because the transaction success rate does not meet the standard (storage and retrieval success rate must be higher than 80% to be eligible for space race rewards), they have not yet been able to qualify for the space race rewards. The new node "t02770" of CDSI Alliance & Spacetime Cloud was named and praised in the Filecoin official Space Race Weekly Report. In addition to the rapid growth in computing power, the order success rate is as high as 99%. The version iteration is to fix bugs, correct and improve the message pool, but it is not a reset of the network. As a miner, you do not need to delete the Lotus repo, just shut down the node, get the latest code, and then rebuild it. The Filecoin Space Race is in full swing, with more than 350 active miners. The network's new effective storage exceeds 10PiB every day, and the network's effective computing power has exceeded 80PiB in just one week (of which Asian nodes account for more than 90% of the computing power). Except for Africa and South America, which have not yet been activated, the rewards in the other four continents have been activated, and we are only one step away from unlocking the global 1 million FIL bonus. The CDSI Alliance & Space-Time Cloud participating node "t02398" suffered a malicious attack from its opponents at the beginning of the competition. After technical optimization and strategy adjustment, as of September 1, the two new nodes of Space-Time Cloud "t02770" and "t02775" temporarily ranked third and thirteenth in the computing power of the entire network, and the computing power growth rate ranked first and fifth in the entire network respectively. The Space Race is the last major update before the launch of the Filecoin mainnet, and it is also the version of the Filecoin network that is closest to the mainnet launch and is truly usable.
