New Infrastructure, New Opportunities 2020 Supercomputing and Distributed Storage Industry Summit - Ningbo Station

On August 29, 2020, a reporter from Wabi.com had the honor to interview Andy, CEO of Open Source Mining Pool, at the Ningbo Station of the 2020 Supercomputing and Distributed Storage Industry Summit, and discussed the future development of Open Source Mining Pool. The following is the original interview text.

MiningCoin.com: MiningCoin.com: First of all, thank you for the invitation from Interstellar Vision, which gives us the honor to interview Andy, the CEO of Open Source Mining Pool.

Hello Andy, please introduce yourself and your company, thank you.

Andy: Hello everyone, hello, Wabi.com. I am Andy. I used to be an investor at Node Capital. My technical team started to work on the Filecoin project in March 2018. After the first delay of Filecoin, my technical team began to transform into the CDN business. Now our customers include Alibaba, Tencent, Douyin, Kuaishou, iQiyi and other large Internet companies, so we have very rich experience in storing big data. Now we continue to work on Filecoin business, which is the first project expected to explode by the end of 2020, and we are also very optimistic about its long-term development.

MiningCoin.com: Please introduce the current main product solutions and advantages, and the node operation status.

Andy: Our product solutions are still based on cost-effectiveness. Many of our early customers are friends around us, so we all start from our own perspective. If we try to optimize and reduce unnecessary expenses, for example, we can put storage online in batches, without paying a lot of hosting fees at the beginning, and try to calculate the storage ratio and scheduling optimization, including the mining pool solution in the future, in order to achieve resource scheduling for the entire network. In the future, we may launch our own ASIC chip mining machine, which also depends on the development of Filecoin. If Filecoin develops well, then this is definitely a strategic high point.

Miningcoin.com: Will open source face a dimensionality reduction attack from other industries?

Andy: Dimensionality reduction is not something we have to face alone, but the entire industry has to face. For example, whether IPFS mining opportunities will face the attack of the cloud storage industry, I think this depends on the future algorithm changes. If the NSE algorithm is adopted in the future, many Intel machines will have an advantage. The official reason for adopting this SDR algorithm is also considering that many cloud computing centers or supercomputing centers use Intel CPUs. AMD has very little accumulation in the server field, so for now, mining machine manufacturers are still safe. But I think we can increase the dimension in another dimension, without waiting to be attacked by others. For example, data proxy is an increase in dimension, because the official purpose of doing this network core is to ask everyone to store more real and valid data, rather than writing data by themselves, which is not very meaningful. If we can make more achievements in this field, it is actually a contribution to the increase in the dimension of Filecoin ecology. We are engaged in CDN business. In fact, Filecoin is more suitable for storing cold data, so we have a lot of real data resources. If we verify the rights of customers in the future, I think we can make more ecological contributions on this.

MiningCoin.com: If a mining pool with negative fees appears, how will open source respond?

Andy: Negative fees will not last long. They may attract customers in the early stage. In fact, this depends on the capital strength of the mining pool. It depends on how big a game you think you can play. Do you want to prepare 10 billion or invest 1 billion first to try it out? This varies from person to person. At present, we have no plan to invest 10 billion for this experiment.

MWC: What are the future development plans of the open source mining pool?

Andy: It can be reflected in three dimensions. First, dedicated hardware. We are currently testing FPGAs. In the future, we may adjust the design of dedicated hardware ASIC chips according to algorithm changes. Second, the cross-network mining pool solution. We already have a prototype of a mining pool, but it is not perfect yet. We will do more in-depth work in this area in the future, hoping to allow larger machines to support Filecoin. Third, in the data proxy dimension, we will find more real data and store it on the Filecoin network to make this network more valuable.
