Just Eat Adds Bitcoin Payment Option to 15,000 French Restaurants

Just Eat France has reportedly added a Bitcoin payment option to 15,000 French restaurants. The price of Bitcoin will be calculated based on its current price on Bitpay. If a user cancels an order paid in Bitcoin, the refund will be returned to the account in Euros and will not fluctuate based on the real-time price of Bitcoin.

Just Eat, a major British online food ordering and delivery platform that currently operates in 13 countries, has added cryptocurrency payment options to its French subsidiary.

The company has partnered with cryptocurrency payment provider Bitpay to allow its users to pay with Bitcoin. As first reported by Decrypt on September 7, Just Eat users will now be able to order food from 15,000 restaurants in France by paying with any of these cryptocurrencies.

It appears that the addition of crypto payments follows Takeaway.com’s acquisition of Just Eat France, with Takeaway.com having accepted Bitcoin payments on other platforms it has acquired since 2017.

The Just Eat France website details the payment process, saying its users will have to "create a digital wallet by downloading special software or an app." Once they link it to the Just Eat app, they can select the Bitcoin payment option at checkout, which will redirect users to the Bitpay payment portal.

The price of Bitcoin will be calculated based on its current price on Bitpay, and the delivery platform will not charge any transaction fees for cryptocurrency payments.

If a user cancels an order paid in Bitcoin, the platform will refund the payment amount in Euros instead of BTC in the user’s bank account. According to the website, the refund amount will not be based on the real-time price of Bitcoin.
