Filecoin launch week ends with AMA content summary

On October 23, Filecoin Launch Week ended perfectly. The Filecoin team held a live AMA with the Filecoin community. More than 10 questions about Filecoin’s launch, storage, and network construction were answered.

The following is a selection of content from this AMA.

What is the best way to get started storing data on Filecoin?

There are lots of different ways to store on Filecoin! For an overview, check out the Store documentation on our documentation site. For consumer use cases, try looking at Slate, Fleek’s storage product, or Starling Storage. If you’re looking for simple video transcoding and storage, check out File.video or Voodfy.

If you are a developer looking to launch an application on Filecoin, try checking out our Build Documentation or Powergate.

Can updates be shared on verified clients? How will these be selected?

Please check out FIP3 and the Notary Governance repository for more details and the latest updates. The community can help manage and iterate the rules specified in the repository to best reflect the goals and values of the Principles.

After the FIP-4 patch, my ratio of actual generated blocks to theoretical values dropped dramatically. What's going on?

Block production has not been changed by the FIP-4 patch or anything else introduced in Lotus v1.1.0. Your "lucky value" may be affected by network conditions or changes to the p2p module.

How is circulating supply calculated?

Circulating supply includes all unlocked tokens in the network. It does not include initial stake, locked block rewards, or burned tokens.

The bug bounty program just updated its rewards format, what are they now?

Investing in a secure future for Filecoin is a top priority, and we want to make sure everyone has every incentive to disclose any vulnerabilities. That’s why we’re increasing the rewards by 4x! Now you can earn up to $100,000 for serious vulnerability reports!

How will you choose which Filecoin Archives to store on Filecoin?

The Filecoin Archive is a community project to curate, disseminate, and preserve valuable data with Filecoin. Anyone can suggest an idea by tweeting and tagging #FilecoinArchives. The Internet Archive and Protocol Labs will collect your suggestions, publish the full list, and curate a subset to preserve on the Filecoin network - and then anyone can help replicate it.
