Binance has blocked US users from accessing its main site due to tightened US regulatory policies

According to BlockBeats, on November 10, foreign media The Block reported that Binance has issued a reminder to users in the United States and blocked local users from accessing the Binance main site. According to previous reports, Binance first announced in 2019 that it would stop providing services to U.S. residents from September of that year.

Binance is sending emails to U.S. residents based on their IP addresses, which appears to be a major step in reinforcing a previously announced blockade of such users. "It has come to our attention that your account may be associated with the United States due to the IP address you previously connected from. Due to regulatory requirements, we cannot provide services to U.S. citizens or residents," read one such email sent on Sunday and obtained by The Block. "If you are a U.S. citizen or resident, please transfer your assets out of your account within 90 days. You may consider using Binance.US or other U.S. platforms."

Binance's move may be related to the recent frequent regulatory actions in the United States. Binance took this action shortly after the US government launched two legal actions against the crypto derivatives trading platform BitMEX. The US Department of Justice and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission recently accused BitMEX and its founder of violating KYC and anti-money laundering regulations. In view of this situation, BitMEX accelerated its KYC plan and required all customers to verify by November 5, 3 months earlier than the original February 2021.

BitMEX competitor Deribit will also require all users to verify by the end of this year. Deribit currently blocks US residents based on IP address.
