A comprehensive review of the top ten most expensive NFTs in history

An NFT may be a painting, a game prop, or an online pet. How much do you think an NFT can be sold for?

The prices of some NFTs may be far beyond imagination. For example, James's collectible card in NBA Top Shot was sold for $3,999; an NFT painting was purchased by socialite Paris Hilton for $17,000; an NFT work named "Creator Satoshi Nakamoto" was sold for 27.5 ETH, etc.

If you think these amounts are impressive enough, the numbers you see next may leave you dumbfounded.

Based on OpenSea data, BlockBeats compiled the top ten NFTs in terms of transaction price (excluding virtual land projects). Let's take a look at the top ten NFTs in history (the following ETH price is calculated based on the current US$450):

10th place: Genesis, from CryptoKitties, sold for 246.9255 ETH, equivalent to 111,100 USD

CryptoKitties is the world's first digital cat collection and breeding game built on blockchain technology. Players can buy, sell and trade cats. Unlike traditional collectibles, players can also breed two CryptoKitties to create a new CryptoKitty with unique genes.

Among them, Genesis is the first NFT pet cat of CryptoKitties, numbered #1, and hatched by the COO of CryptoKitties. The special parts of the body are unique "Genesi" and "Founder #11".

Here's how it describes itself: "Hello, human. My name is Genesis, dogs call me Alpha, cats call me Omega. To your kind, I am a riddle wrapped in mystery, first discovered by a user of Alaska's Mystery Zone. I stare into the void, and the void stares back at me. Then I lose interest. I can't wait to become your new master!"

8th place: Sigma battleship, from CRYPTO SPACE COMMANDER, sold for 250 ETH, about 112,500 USD

Players own starships and modules based on the Ethereum blockchain and can trade them on the primary or secondary market. Players can collect various resources and upgrade them, and can earn ETH and other cryptocurrencies through the game.

The Sigma is the first of the Dreadnought-class ships. It is equipped with a Quantum Jump Drive, an extremely experimental and powerful FTL warp drive that allows it to instantly teleport to any location within 20 light years. The Quantum Jump Drive makes the Sigma extremely dangerous, as a savvy pilot can time its FTL jump to complete behind an enemy ship for a perfect ambush.

7th place: Founder Cat #18, from CryptoKitties, sold for 253.3368 ETH, about 114,000 USD

It is the #18 pet cat in CryptoKitties, hatched by the COO of CryptoKitties. It has a special part of its body that says "Founder #18".

Here is its self-introduction: "I am cat number 18. I like to trip my owner, eat until I am full, and read Garfield. When no one is home, I will invite my friends to my house to listen to Rihanna's songs. I look forward to riding the unicorn with you."

6th place: Right Place & Right Time (Bitcoin Hourly Price Offset), creator: Matt Kane, transaction price 262 ETH, about 117,900 US dollars

Matt Kane is an artist from Chicago who started exhibiting in his early twenties. He later left the art world for a decade and worked as a developer in the Cascadia region. There, he taught himself programming, accumulated experience, and made a career choice that would one day be centered around creation, which is his current career. Kane started as an oil painter and eventually became an algorithmic artist.

Right Place & Right Time (Bitcoin Hourly Price Offset) autonomously generates a new composition for the main image every day using a data source of Bitcoin’s price movements over the past 24 hours. Each hour’s price programmatically controls the rotation, scale, and position of the associated layers. Astute viewers can infer the price fluctuations of the day simply by looking at the work. While the daily image generation is the result of autonomous API calls using an algorithm written by the artist, the artist chooses to retain a control token.

This token allows him to fine-tune variables associated with his algorithm, in addition to resolving aesthetic issues over the life of the artwork. Layer states, alphas, hue, saturation, and brightness are all elements of control that the artist retains to keep this artwork a living working piece. An earlier iteration of this artwork was previously featured as a nighttime projection-mapped video on the face of the Daniel Fisher Clock Tower as part of ETH Denver 2020. Master token owners can access the work and other exclusive content on the artist’s NFT portal: https://collect.mattkane.com/minted-works/right-place-right-time-bitcoin-hourly-price-offset/.

Fifth place: Angel, from Axie Infinity, sold for 300 ETH, about 135,000 USD

Axie Infinity is a world inspired by Pokémon, where any player can earn tokens through skillful gaming skills and contributions to the ecosystem. Players can fight, collect, train and build a Pokémon kingdom to control their pets.

Fourth place: Genesis, creators: José Delbo & Trevor Jones, transaction price 302.5 ETH, about 136,100 US dollars

José Delbo, the creator of DC Comics' "Wonder Woman" and Marvel Comics' "Transformers", has collaborated with digital artist Trevor Jones, the creator of "Picasso's Bull" which set a record for NFT auction prices, to launch an NFT collection themed on the famous DC Comics character "Batman".

Third place: 5000.0 ETH cover on Curve, from yInsure NFT, sold for 350 ETH, about 157,500 USD

Covering 5000.0ETH of Curve smart contract risk.

Policy valid until 11/19/2020, 18:08:03.

Second place: 1-1-1, from F1® Delta Time, sold for 415.9 ETH, equivalent to 187,200 USD

1-1-1 is the first official F1® NFT. It is the first car to be released in F1® Delta Time and is an ultra-limited edition: there is only one 1-1-1 and there will never be another. It is a truly unique digital collectible.

First place: Dragon, from CryptoKitties, sold for 600 ETH, about 270,000 US dollars

It is the pet cat number #896775 in CryptoKitties, hatched by CryptoKitties player Derek. Its special body parts include "Dragontail" and "Egyptiankohl".

Here's how he introduces himself: "Hello! I'm Dragon. I bit Rebecca Black when I was young, but those days are over, believe it or not. Spying on your neighbors is a pretty exciting thing, you should give it a try, too. Let's get in touch using ICQ!"

Special Mention: Portraits of a Mind-Block 21, by Ben Gentilli, sold for $131,250

The Portraits of a Mind series consists of 40 digital artworks. The physical works are built on a canvas disc with a diameter of 50.59 inches. The surface is engraved with 322,048 numbers, and the inner edge is engraved with the words "Block 21". It is covered with suspended pigments, graphite, and aluminum paint. Their 12.3 million numbers are an exact transcription of the v 0.1.0 code that released Bitcoin. Each code is hand-carved and embellished with gold (a metaphor for Bitcoin mining) and arranged in a (decentralized) style. This is the first auction of NFTs at a major auction house, and the identity of the buyer is currently unknown. Christie's auction house initially estimated that Block 21 could sell for between $12,000 and $18,000, and the final transaction price was far higher than expected.
