Ethereum 2.0 is officially launched, and everyone is looking forward to the 2.0 era

At 20:00 on December 1, Ethereum 2.0 launched the Genesis block and Phase 0 (Beacon Chain) was officially launched.

Since the launch of the mainnet in July 2015, Ethereum has undergone several upgrades, including Frontier, Homestead, Metropolis, and the currently ongoing Serenity.

In the quiet phase, Ethereum will completely switch from PoW to PoS, and Ethereum will also enter the 2.0 phase. The official launch of the Phase 0 beacon chain marks the beginning of Ethereum's transition to PoS, and a new era has begun.

After Phase 0 was launched, many big names came to report the good news and send their blessings.

As the founder and soul of Ethereum, Vitalik Buterin has already entered the countdown mode for launching 2.0 and is extremely excited.

“This is a great testament to the ethereum community.”

After Phase 0, the beacon chain will be able to provide staking rewards to early depositors. As of press time, 882,000 ETH have been staked in the Ethereum 2.0 deposit contract. The beacon chain will exist separately from the current Ethereum mainnet, and the mainnet will then be attached to PoS as a shard, but at some point in the end, the two will merge together.

Justin Drake, Eth2 researcher at the Ethereum Foundation, said:

“Today is a pivotal moment. From day one to now, we have four production-grade Eth2 clients, which is crazy: Lighthouse, Nimbus, Prysm, and Teku.”
