Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Tether mentioned in premiere of popular American TV series

Major cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin, Ethereum and Tether were mentioned in the 11th season premiere of Shameless, a long-running American comedy television series airing on Showtime.
In the first episode of the series, “This is Chicago,” Kevin (Steve Howey) is shown being confused by the plight of a cryptocurrency user who says, “My Bitcoin, it’s down 30, and I’m using my Tether (USDT) and Ethereum to trade it.” However, Kevin responds that he has no idea what the cryptocurrency trader is talking about.

This is not the first time Bitcoin has been mentioned in a popular TV show. In 2016, a cryptocurrency enthusiast saw a Bitcoin address on the USA Network’s Mr. Robot and decided to start sending BTC. In the show, hacker Elliot Alderson even wrote a program that could clear the cryptocurrency using “crypto technology.” In February of this year, an episode of The Simpsons showed how cryptocurrency will become the “cash of the future.” Many believe that The Simpsons has accurately predicted Donald Trump’s rise to the presidency of the United States, among other successful “predictions.” In fact, analysts at London-based Luno even calculated Bitcoin’s expected mass adoption based on The Simpsons’ predictions. Looking back at Bitcoin’s 2017 bull run, there is a particular reason, and it is also because some TV shows started to reference Bitcoin, including the animated comedy Family Guy, The Big Bang Theory, and the 2015 American comedy film Dope. It was even mentioned in the album Kamikaze by American rapper Eminem.

It remains to be seen whether more people will mention the world’s largest cryptocurrency during the 2020 Bitcoin bull run. As for Ethereum, so far, Ethereum has only been mentioned once, in the 2017 comedy TV series Silicon Valley. (Blockchain Knights)
