【Filecoin】 Big Events

  • Filecoin network failure: At 1:49 am on December 20, 2020, the Filecoin main chain was stuck at height 336458 due to a bug in Specs-actors. The main reason for this problem is that the ordering of the deadline map in the original code failed to be implemented according to the pre-designed implementation, which may cause differences in the calculation results of ParentReceipts. A large number of nodes believed that the received blocks were different from their local verification results and refused to accept them. Since then, the entire network has entered a state of being unable to synchronize. Specs-actors was updated to version 2.3.3 to urgently fix this problem. Accordingly, the Lotus version was also updated to version 1.4.0.



V1.4.0 includes the updates in V1.3.0, and the updates in V1.3.0 have not changed. This also means that the WindowedPoSt Gas message exemption is still in effect on the morning of December 21 (starting from 343,200 height).
 
Affected by this, Huobi, OKEx and other platforms have suspended FIL deposits and withdrawals, and the resumption time will be announced.
 

  • FIP proposal to improve performance and reduce gas fees

FIP-7: Improve the performance and security of HAMT and AMT. HAMT and AMT are the most important data structures for storing state in Lotus. The improvement of their performance will help improve the performance of the entire network; FIP-8: Batch processing of Pre-commitments. If batch sending of messages is supported, storage access and updates can also be processed at one time to improve performance; FIP-9: WindowedPoSt Gas message exemption, that is, exemption from burning gas fees. Because the implementation is relatively simple, it is included in the 1.3.0 version update.
 

  • Lotus team is on Christmas break

Most members of the Lotus team will be on vacation from December 21st to January 4th, and will be less responsive to messages in Slack and GitHub.


The progress of Loutus version updates will slow down in the future. FIP-7 will be included in the next version, which is expected to be released in late January 2021; FIP-8 will be implemented in the next version or postponed to a later version depending on the situation.
