Cryptocurrency mining enthusiast Simon Byrne has taken cryptocurrencies out of the garage and onto the road after installing a small mining rig in the trunk of his hybrid car. “I’m not crazy about the money, but I’ll take advantage of every opportunity I can get to mine,” said Simon Byrne.

According to Hardware Times , Byrne bought a BMW BMV i8 hybrid car for about $150,000 and equipped it with a small graphics mining rig consisting of six GeForce RTX 3080 graphics cards. The rig is powered by an ASUS B250 Mining Expert board and an EVGA SuperNOVA 1600 T2 power supply, which is mainly used to mine Ethereum (ETH).

The HODLer from Nevada, USA, reportedly built the entire mining rig himself to “annoy gamers” and make some money on the go. While the graphics card Byrne used is marketed towards high-end PC gamers, some miners are able to use its beefed-up specs for cryptocurrency mining, primarily Ethereum at the moment.

The BMW hybrid's battery can reportedly power the small mine in the trunk, but heat is still a concern - perhaps Byrne plans to mainly drive and mine in the winter? Otherwise, he may need to keep the BMV's rear hatch open for ventilation.
