Miami residents can now pay their wages in BTC

According to Forbes, Miami Mayor Francis Suarez has been busy adding a personal touch to try to attract tech entrepreneurs to Miami, and now the mayor brings a different attitude and policy perspective on innovation.

Suarez said in an interview recently that Bitcoin will be "the biggest news in the next few years." The mayor admitted that he has always been fascinated by Bitcoin. The mathematical properties of Bitcoin attracted him, and he also realized that Bitcoin is becoming more and more popular among the American people. Now the city will take three practical ways to show its friendliness to Bitcoin:

Miami is considering giving city employees the opportunity to receive their salaries in Bitcoin.

Local fees and taxes can be paid with Bitcoin or some other cryptocurrency.

Finally, the city’s Treasury Department may put some of its investment funds into Bitcoin, which would be the first time this has happened in a major U.S. (and perhaps world) city.

However, Suarez did not say exactly how much money would be invested in Bitcoin. While using the city's investment power creates a lot of potential, there are also some risks. For example, according to the mayor's recollection, Miami's Treasury Department does not hold any commodities, but mainly holds cash and cash equivalents.

Separately, the mayor is considering using Bitcoin to fund his reelection campaign, joining a small group of politicians who have raised money in the cryptocurrency.

Suarez concluded the interview by saying that many people underestimated the Bitcoin story, but it remains to be seen whether the Miami mayor can effectively combine his promotion of innovation with Bitcoin.
