Message costs reduced by 90%? Filecoin network upgraded to V10!

On February 23 , the official team released Lotus V1.5.0. Lotus V1.5 includes two FIP proposals, namely FIP-0007 and FIP-0010.

The FIP-0007 proposal was created on November 27, 2020. It consists of three smaller independent proposals that can improve Filecoin HAMT and AMT in terms of performance and security. The core feature of the FIP-0010 proposal is the use of off-chain WindowPoSt verification, that is, WindowPoSt can be put on the chain without verification, and the off-chain verifier can call DisputeWindowedPoSt for verification later. The FIP-0010 proposal alleviates the congestion situation and improves the TPS of the Filecoin network through "off-chain" verification. For miners, it can not only reduce gas fees and reduce the probability of being punished, but also better maintain the original computing power, maintain the stability of computing power, and steadily obtain block rewards.

According to Github data, the results of FIP-0010 have been confirmed. The Gas used by an arbitrary SubmitWindowedPoSt message has been reduced from about 130M to 8.5M, a reduction of more than 90%! This greatly saves the daily costs of miners, while also releasing a large amount of chain bandwidth, bringing lower Base fees and higher chain utilization.

Will the "off-chain verification" pioneered by Filecoin cause miners to store data without complying with network rules? In fact, the official has adopted the role of "disputer". Anyone can apply to own a Lotus node to "supervise" miners. Once the debate is successful, the miner needs to pay 4 FIL to the debater, and the miner needs to pay the invalid proof fee IPF, which is currently 5.51BR (that is, 5.51 times the daily block revenue of each sector corresponding to the rejected WindowPoSt).

Regarding the gas fee, 1475 previously adopted the "1475 Gas Decision Engine Algorithm" to effectively predict the rise and fall trend of the base fee to adjust the chain strategy. This time, 1475 successfully completed the upgrade and ensured that all nodes did not lose computing power during the upgrade process through its technical advantages and operation and maintenance strength.
