USPS enters NFT market, will NFT mailing become a new trend? -

The United States Postal Service (USPS) will soon enter the NFT market. Communications-as-a-service platform CaseMail announced on Tuesday that it has been certified by the USPS as the first producer of electronic postage labels (ePostage Lable) using blockchain. The USPS ePostage label uses CaseMail's revolutionary NFT mailing technology and marks the world's first blockchain-powered mail delivery.

“Using NFTs to protect a process that is familiar and important to everyone — mailing a letter or package — helps demystify this important new technology,” said Joe Ruiz, founder and CEO of CaseMail. “It’s just postage printed off the blockchain.”

Through digital marking of CaseMail tokens on USPS electronic postage labels and items to be mailed, all data about shipping and mailing history is recorded on the blockchain, creating a verifiable chain of custody for both digital and physical assets.

The technology can prove content and delivery history, and the chain of custody can be verified through cryptography, ensuring the privacy of senders and receivers.

The company will initially offer postage tokens “exclusively for legal professionals and government agencies,” with plans to roll out in the second quarter to include partnerships with consumers and business service providers.

The government agency reported $73.1 billion in revenue from postage and other services in fiscal 2020, meaning digital stamps could tap into a massive market.

CaseMail’s use case for NFTs appears to be part of a broader trend of companies incorporating real-world data into tokens. This year, individuals and tech companies have used NFTs to geotag street art and developed a device that records temperature, air quality, and other data and incorporates it into tokens for proof-of-existence verification.
