The new wave of music NFT platforms, see how mozik leads the revolution in the digital music era

In 2021, the blockchain NFT craze swept the global art market. The immutable and tradable properties of NFTs have effectively improved the efficiency of the traditional art market, and have not only been recognized by crypto asset users, but also attracted a wider range of mass consumers. On March 2, 2021, Claire Elise Boucher, the wife of Tesla Motors founder Elon Musk and a musician, sold $5.8 million worth of NFT digital artworks in less than 20 minutes.

At 20:00 on the evening of May 12, 2021, the big-name sharing session in Liandaodao's live broadcast room specially invited Li Jiechu, former COO of Rolling Stone Mobile Digital Music, former deputy general manager of the new media center of Beijing News Media, and co-founder and CEO of Mozik, to conduct a special live broadcast on "The New Wave of Music NFT Platforms, See How Mozik Leads the Revolution in the Digital Music Era". Sakura Xiaoying, the head of Liandaodao Media, will talk with Li Jiechu, and through a question-and-answer format, the hottest content in the industry recently will be presented to you.

The following is the interview transcript: (with some minor omissions without changing the original meaning)

Guests’ self-introduction:

I am very happy to be Gao Wei's guest today. Thanks to the host. Before Mozik, I was the COO of Rolling Stone Mobile Digital Music. Before that, I was the deputy general manager of the New Media Center of Beijing News Media. I was born in the 1970s, which is not considered young in the blockchain industry. The blockchain industry is dominated by young people.

I have been working in the mobile Internet industry for 15 years and have worked in Hong Kong and Singapore for several years. I can be said to be the first generation of digital music practitioners in China, so I have a deep understanding of the Internet, music, and entertainment industry. In 2009, I led the team to build and operate the iPhone and iPad mobile terminals of Beijing News, helping Beijing News realize the transformation and transformation of its online business into digital and mobile Internet.

"Ni Ting" is a product I created in 2010. It is considered to be the first scene-based music app in China. It was later acquired by Rolling Stone Mobile for US$21 million.

After the experience of listening to music, I deeply understood the music culture and fully understood the music consumption needs of users. Then my team and I created Mozik again, hoping to give users a completely different feeling. It is worth mentioning that I have received strong support from Faye Wong, Luo Yonghao and many friends for both of my startups, so I can be considered a serial entrepreneur.

Question 1: Could you please introduce the current status of the music industry? How do you view the revolution in the digital music era?

Li Jiechu: When I was young, many of my friends had no money, and some of them moved to Beijing, but we all had one thing in common, that is, we had dreams. I am old now, but I have always wanted to help these young musicians realize their dreams. But the current music industry is very unfriendly to musicians. Not to mention those who are not famous, even if they are famous, if they only rely on releasing songs, 9 out of 10 musicians will starve to death. A report from the Communication University of China shows that 30% of Chinese musicians have zero income, nearly 70% of musicians work part-time, and 95% of musicians cannot make a living solely from music income.

The current music market is not only chaotic, but also poor. Poverty has two meanings. On the one hand, there is a lack of original music for singers, and on the other hand, it is really poor. Singers don't make money from releasing songs, or even lose money, so this forms a vicious cycle. Mozik is here to solve this fundamental pain point, so that musicians will no longer starve and have money to light up their dreams.

So Mozik wants to use NFT and blockchain to change this situation. Through Mozik, singers can release their own songs, and the copyright belongs to themselves instead of being monopolized by companies. I think this is the biggest revolution.

Question 2: Can you briefly introduce Mozik? Mozik's founding story, vision and team members

Li Jiechu: In 2010, I created China's first scene-based music app "Niting", which was later acquired by Rolling Stone Mobile for US$21 million. After deeply understanding the music culture and fully understanding the music consumption needs of users, I created Mozik again. Both of my entrepreneurial ventures were supported by Faye Wong, Luo Yonghao and many friends, so I can be considered a serial entrepreneur.

Speaking of how I thought of entering NFT, this has to start from 2019. I remember that in a "Xiao Shuo" program in 2019, Gao Xiaosong returned to his alma mater, Tsinghua University, and gave a speech titled "No Poetry and Distant Places, Only Compromise". In the speech, Gao Xiaosong talked about: the current monopoly model of the cultural and creative industry has a negative impact on the market, and blockchain, with its decentralized, traceable, and tamper-proof features, can achieve decentralized and fragmented copyright automatic distribution, which is a powerful tool for the cultural and creative industry to overcome the monopoly problem.

If you have time, you can go and watch this video. It is also available on Mozik’s official account. You can search it. Xiaosong and I have a good relationship in private. I originally asked him to work with me on Mozik, but he signed with Alibaba and it was not convenient for him to come. So we often discuss blockchain. While I was running Mozik, I was thinking about how to combine blockchain. Until the NFT trend appeared, I felt that the time was ripe. It was time to build a global NFT music ecosystem based on blockchain, to try to turn Gao Xiaosong’s idea in his speech at Tsinghua University into reality, or to make a meaningful attempt.

Question 3: How does Mozik build a decentralized music sharing platform? And how does it empower the online music economy?

Li Juechu: This is quite technical. Mozik focuses on solving various common problems in online music creation, discovery, trading and fan operations, including blockchain rights confirmation solutions, smart contract sets for copyright transactions, digital content storage, fan economy and other issues. The Mozik system builds a complete Mozik ecosystem from three aspects: basic protocols, application layer tools and communities.

Question 4: How does Mozik integrate with blockchain NFT? And how to operate IP core assets?

Li Jiechu: Mike Shinoda, the lead singer of Linkin Park, sold his first NFT work for the equivalent of $30,000 on February 7 and donated the proceeds to the Art Center College of Design. He explained the copyright of NFT and his artwork on Twitter: "If I write original lyrics on a piece of paper, then I own the lyrics; if you buy the paper, then you own the paper. But through the blockchain, you are certified as the sole owner of the paper."

Mozik uses blockchain technology to reduce trust costs, establish a peer-to-peer profit-sharing mechanism, build a more fair and reasonable profit-sharing mechanism, reduce front-end content creation costs, share platform benefits, achieve a balance of interests among all parties in the ecosystem, and achieve a shared and co-governed ecological platform. Mozik uses IP as its core digital asset, connects producers and consumers through platforms and blockchain technology, maximizes asset effects, and achieves balanced returns.

Blockchain technology can achieve real-time locking of IP rights on the Mozik platform and build a judicially recognized rights protection mechanism. It also supports the original Muti-Lock mechanism, and realizes on-chain management, storage, authorization, and trading of IP property rights through the Digital Content Distribution Protocol (DCPP) and the Exchange Protocol (CTPP), truly realizing distributed IP rights asset management. With the help of the detection technology of the blockchain network, piracy and infringement can be discovered in real time to protect user rights.

In the future, Mozik can be used for three types of assets through its own platform:

1. Celebrity NFT assets, such as celebrity cards, celebrity singing moments, celebrity signatures, etc.

2. Music NFT copyright, such as copyright licensing income, copyright auctions, copyright crowdfunding, offline concerts, etc.;

3. Fan traffic assets, such as advertising, fan meetings, music derivatives, etc.

Question 5: It is reported that Mozik has an Internet fan user base of tens of millions. How does it create a unique music community of tens of millions?

Li Jiechu: Mozik has a user base of tens of millions of Internet fans. After the revision, these fans will seamlessly enter the world of blockchain and enjoy the new experience brought by blockchain technology. The revised Mozik community will also provide a broader development space for music creators. With the core of multi-party co-construction of high-quality content, a music NFT social ecosystem including music institutions, musicians and users has been built, which not only provides users with a more complete music entertainment experience, but also opens up more channels for musicians to display their music works.

In the music community, everyone can be a content publisher. For example, by applying to become a Mozik user, you can obtain the freedom to publish, promote and monetize your works, and then use the Mozik music social platform to gain more attention and interaction from fans, so that the corresponding NFT works will appreciate in value, and then you can obtain more resources and receive more attention, forming a virtuous cycle of "creation-appreciation-re-creation-re-appreciation".

Question 6: How does Mozik innovate and break through?

Li Jiechu: Mozik is the first platform in the music industry to combine blockchain with NFT. The direction of progress and everything else are still unknown, and we need to explore and break through.

Question 7: How do users obtain Mozik Tokens and token distribution?

Li Jiechu: MOZ tokens are equity tokens issued by the Mozik platform, with a total issuance of 1 billion. Based on the depth of user participation in the ecosystem, the Mozik platform distributes MOZ dividend rights to ecosystem participants such as investors, fans, and creators. The distribution rules are as follows:

Reserved for the core team: 12%, locked for 18 months on mainstream exchanges

Foundation reserves: 20%, for community and project operations

Ecosystem incentives: 25%, used for ecosystem construction, community project incentives, fan incentives and city partners

Content mining: 25%, used for content mining, to encourage creators to contribute content and fans to contribute traffic

Cornerstone and angel investments: 18%

The following are some of our partners:

Question 8: Mozik’s strengths and honors or achievements

Li Jiechu: Mozik has three biggest advantages. We have a lot of traditional music resources. We have long-term and in-depth cooperation with Rolling Stone, Taihe and many other well-known musicians, which can be transformed into the platform. The second advantage is that we had 10 million users on the Internet before, mainly users born after 1995, and there is a very young music community. The third is that we are the first music NFT platform in China and the first Chinese NFT project recognized internationally, so we have the first-mover advantage.

Question 9: Mozik’s future roadmap

Li Juechu: In the second quarter of 2021, which is already here: Mozik plans to continue to introduce multiple overseas IPs, initially establish domestic and foreign creative communities and fan communities, and plans to carry out offline activities from time to time.

In the third quarter of 2021, Mozik plans to launch wallet functions, build the underlying platform, implement IP NFT asset management, and support music platform functions.

In the fourth quarter of 2021, Mozik plans to initially establish a unified market expansion mechanism for entry and issuance, a platform and application platform co-construction model, and a community governance model.

By the first quarter of 2022, Mozik will plan to improve IP governance functions, transfer basic platforms and chain communities to co-governance, and improve asset, content, and user community functions.

Mozik's vision is to build an NFT platform that is inclusive and accepting of all innovative art ecosystems.

Mozik was a huge success in its PreIDO in early May this year, selling 5 million tokens at $0.02 per token and gaining 130,000 followers. On May 20, 2021, Mozik will conduct an IDO on Ignition and BSCPad.
