Illinois Political Candidate Holly King Accepts Crypto Donations

On August 26, Holly Kim, treasurer of Lake County, Illinois, became the first political candidate in the state to accept crypto campaign donations.

Kim recently received a $3 Litecoin (LTC) donation from Mark Tan, founder of T Capital Coin, an investment management firm based in Lake Forest, the Chicago Tribune reported on Wednesday.

The Lake County treasurer, who is up for re-election in 2022, plans to accept Bitcoin (BTC) and a number of popular cryptocurrencies, including Ethereum (ETH), DOGE, and Dai. For Kim, accepting crypto donations opens up a “new area” for supporting tech-savvy people, she said, adding: “People seem to want to do that.” Kim, a Democrat, is also a crypto enthusiast who reportedly tried to use her former trusteeship in Mundelein to encourage cryptocurrency adoption in the village. Given her interest in crypto, the self-proclaimed “longtime internet user” plans to keep crypto donations in the hopes that market prices may rise.
