Russian regulators are negative about cryptocurrencies, but public opinion supports it

Russia officially banned cryptocurrency payments in the country in January 2021, but the law does not prohibit Russians from buying or trading cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin. In August 2020, State Duma member Anatoly Aksakov said that accepting cryptocurrencies as payment essentially means "the destruction of the financial system." Elvira Nabiullina, the governor of the Central Bank of Russia, called cryptocurrency one of the most dangerous investment tools in existence.

But a survey conducted in August 2021 showed that nearly 77% of respondents said that cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin, Ethereum and Litecoin were the "most forward-looking" investments.
