Cryptocurrency platform company hacked and $600 million stolen: hackers: "It was for fun"

According to Reuters, a company that was hacked said that hackers have returned more than a third of the $613 million in stolen cryptocurrency.
Poly Network, a decentralized finance platform that runs peer-to-peer transactions, said on Twitter that $260 million of the stolen funds had been returned, but $353 million remained to be returned in one of the largest cryptocurrency heists in history.
The company, which allows users to exchange tokens on different blockchains, was hacked recently and called on the perpetrators to return the stolen money and threatened legal action.
According to blockchain forensics firm Chainalysis, the hackers exploited a vulnerability in the digital contracts used by Poly Network to transfer assets between different blockchains.
According to digital messages shared by cryptocurrency tracking firms Elliptic and Chainalysis, one of the people claiming to have carried out the hack said they did it “for fun” and wanted to “expose this vulnerability” before others could exploit it.
The self-proclaimed hacker wrote that returning the tokens “was always in the original plan,” adding that “I’m not really interested in the money.”
Elliptic co-founder Tom Robinson said the hackers’ decision to return the money may have been due to the headache of laundering such a large amount of stolen cryptocurrency.
