According to Bitcoin Magazine, citing Iran International, the Iranian government has lifted its previous ban on Bitcoin mining. In May, former Iranian President Hassan Rouhani announced a ban on Bitcoin mining until late September to reduce demand on the country’s power grid. Rouhani said that mining farms with state operating licenses consumed only 30 megawatts (MW) of electricity, while unauthorized mining farms consumed 2,000 MW. Earlier on September 29, Iranian authorities discovered that the Tehran Stock Exchange had crypto mining equipment, and its CEO resigned. It is reported that when the incident occurred, mining activities were still illegal in the country. |
