The Sarawak Public Utilities Department in Malaysia has uncovered the largest case of stealing electricity to mine cryptocurrencies in the local area. It is reported that the illegal activity caused Sarawak Energy to suffer losses of more than RM300,000 per month. They found more than 1,200 mining machines, computer accessories and modems worth about RM1.74 million in an idle factory. At present, all cryptocurrency mining machines and other computer accessories have been confiscated, and illegal direct-plug cables have also been removed as evidence of electricity theft. |
