The government of Grenada, an island country in the eastern Caribbean, officially appointed Justin Sun as the permanent representative and ambassador to the World Trade Organization (WTO), and authorized him to represent Grenada at WTO meetings during his term of office. Wang Feng, editor-in-chief of the Chinese website of the Financial Times, commented that this is an important cooperation between the crypto community and a government, which opens up more opportunities. As a "star" in the blockchain industry, Justin Sun is well-known for creating TRON. According to its official data, TRON has become one of the world's three largest public chains, with more than 67 million users. The TRON protocol processes more than 10 billion US dollars in transfer transactions every day, and the assets on the chain exceed 60 billion US dollars. Regarding the change of new identity, Justin Sun issued an open letter stating that the Tron Foundation had decided to dissolve on July 25, 2021, and the three super nodes associated with it will completely withdraw this month. The Tron protocol is now completely decentralized. Bitpush had an exclusive interview with Justin Sun, the founder of TRON, revealing the story behind his withdrawal from TRON and becoming a WTO ambassador. The following is a transcript of the interview: Bitpush: Why did you become Grenada’s representative to the WTO? What’s the story behind it? Justin Sun: I am very optimistic about the role that Caribbean countries will play in the future development of blockchain and digital currency economy. First of all, Caribbean countries are very close to the United States, and they are more familiar with emerging technologies such as blockchain and digital currency. Secondly, their supervision is not as strict as that of the United States. In fact, I have spent a lot of time in Caribbean countries since last year. I have been to St. Kitts, Belize, Bahamas, Panama, Dominica, and Barbados before. I may know more about the Caribbean than ordinary people. I have also met with local prime ministers, including the prime ministers of Barbados, Panama, Bahamas and Dominica, not to mention Grenada. So I actually know quite well about the entire Caribbean region. I think they also have great enthusiasm in the blockchain and digital currency economy. Grenada has been looking for someone with an international perspective who can contribute to Grenada in emerging industries such as the digital economy and blockchain. I talked to the Prime Minister and the Foreign Minister, and they were very satisfied with my resume and experience in this area. Bitpush : Then you have to join their nationality. Justin Sun: Yes, that’s right. I am now a citizen of their country. Bitpush : How do you view the transformation from a crypto entrepreneur to an ambassador of a country? Justin Sun: Everyone may think that cross-border is quite big, but I think this is actually a new stage. I think that the entire crypto industry has now reached a time when it needs to interact closely with sovereign states, regulatory agencies and international organizations. After all, the scale of our entire industry has reached this point. The scale of the entire industry is now about 2.2 trillion US dollars, and it is in a state of deep roots and thriving leaves. I think we need to strive more for sovereign states, the international organizations/multilateral diplomatic relations behind them, and the recognition of most people at the global level. Therefore, I think that diplomatic identity is not only for Tron, but also for the entire blockchain industry and cryptocurrency industry. We can showcase it on the international stage. I think this is also a very important opportunity. I hope to not only play a role in promoting Grenada's national interests in the WTO, but also to push the blockchain and cryptocurrency industries to a different level. I may be the first person in our industry to be an ambassador, so I think it is a new, but also a cross-era thing. Bitpush: If you return to China in the future, Foreign Minister Wang Yi will receive you. Justin Sun: I dare not say Foreign Minister Wang Yi, but the representative from China should be Li Chenggang (Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Chinese Delegation to the WTO). He should be the contact person between us. Bitpush: Some people may think this is hype. What do you want to say to them? Justin Sun: First of all, this is definitely impossible. Ambassadors are important to the country, right? In the past, people may joke that I spent $4.6 million to bid for the Buffett lunch, but this is a national treasure after all. We also know that China's chief representative to the WTO, including the specially appointed ambassador, is concurrently the vice minister/assistant minister of the Ministry of Commerce, so this is still quite important. Of course, I am also treading on thin ice. This time I hope to do this job well. Bitpush: This is indeed very different from your previous experience. Do you feel it is a big challenge? Justin Sun: First of all, what you said is very right. I must be very excited, because it is a new position after all. Secondly, I am indeed a little nervous. Of course, I have also strengthened my studies recently. I think after all, I am representing Grenada at the WTO meeting. There are 165 countries in the WTO. I hope I can represent the interests of Grenada, the people of Grenada, and the interests of developing countries, including the interests of the blockchain industry and the digital economy. I think I can better show these on this stage. I think I still have room for learning. Bitpush: What about Tron? Justin Sun: First of all, we are a completely decentralized protocol, so now we only have 3 super representatives left, out of a total of 27 super representatives, and now they have completed their mission. Then our TRON Foundation has also been dissolved, and I think it is now in a completely decentralized stage. In fact, whether it is its development or its specific future contributions, it mainly depends on the community, just like Ethereum, which is a completely decentralized role. Of course, I will personally do my best to help TRON grow, fund developers on TRON, and carry out more development on TRON, including our BitTorrent Chain, JST, NFT Win, and our layout in the fields of GameFi and DeiFi will also continue. But of course, in the future, everyone will know me more as Grenada's Chief Representative to the WTO and Ambassador Extraordinary and Extraordinary. Bitpush: What is your opinion on the future of the crypto market? Justin Sun: I feel that the overall market sentiment is still relatively optimistic at the moment. There has been a certain amount of decline, which I think is very normal, because from the beginning of this year to now, the increase in the entire cryptocurrency has been quite astonishing. I think where there is an increase there must be a decrease, and where there is a lot of increase there will naturally be some adjustments, but I am still relatively optimistic about the overall future forecast of cryptocurrency at present. At the same time, we are quite optimistic about the development of global cryptocurrencies. ETFs are not only launched in the United States, but also in Europe. In fact, our Tron is also the first ETF approved by European regulators. So now I think the crypto industry may not only be paid attention to by some people in our industry or retail investors. More and more financial institutions and large investment institutions are beginning to pay attention to this field. So I personally am still full of confidence in the future of crypto. Bitpush: Do you think this bull market has ended? Justin Sun: I think it is not over yet. First, I think everyone may think that the recent decline may be related to the Fed's attitude of raising interest rates, but I think the growth of the entire industry is still far greater than its increase. So I think the bull market in our industry will continue. Of course, I dare not say how long it will last. In layman's terms, it is currently in a state of "the bull is still there". |
